The philosophy of STEAM revolves around the concept that:

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY interpreted through ENGINEERING & the ARTS, all based in MATHEMATICAL elements.
STEAM represents a shift in focus from a traditional educational philosophy, which placed heavy value on results, to a more modern ideal, which focuses on the entire learning process from beginning to end. Essentially, we value and welcome opportunities to make mistakes, try multiple ideas, listen to differing opinions, and create a base of knowledge that is relevant to real-life experiences.
These opportunities, gained through the use of STEAM aligned activities and curriculum, produce a more well-rounded, problem solving mindset, which creates outcomes and results that are more complex and demonstrate greater conceptual understanding.
